Fake dating her best friend’s boyfriend? What could possibly go wrong?

Madison Brown has had enough change this year to last a lifetime. All she wants is to fly under the radar and get through her last two years of high school. But her best friend Hannah has other plans. Hannah wants to be one of the popular girls. And that includes becoming a cheerleader and dating the star of Sweet Orchard High’s golf team. How does Madi fit into Hannah’s latest scheme? Madi has served as Hannah’s buffer since they were kids. If straight-A student, goody-two-shoes, Madi is around Hannah’s dad is more likely to allow her a little leeway from his super strict rules.

But it’s one thing to try out for cheerleading despite having absolutely no desire to execute a toe touch or a herkie. Pretending to date Hannah’s new boyfriend Levi Daniels so she can hide the relationship from her dad? Now that’s a whole other story. Especially when it feels like Levi understands Madi better than anyone ever has.

With everything else in Madi’s life spinning out of control, her friendship with Hannah is the one thing she’d like to keep together. But as Hannah gets closer to her goal of becoming popular, leaving Madi and Levi alone together, he starts to bring out parts of her she’s never let anyone see, not even Hannah.

The dating might be fake but the feelings are getting real and Madi will do anything to make herself believe that isn’t true.

See? Not complicated at all...

"Madi, I can't stop thinking about you," Levi says, his voice dropping even lower now.

Ohhhhhhhh, Levi. 😍😭

He was literally just such a sweet and swoony guy, y'all.

accurate, lol.

I've said it SO many times, but I just loveeeee fake relationship plots. I really do. And it was soooo hard to read about Madi and Levi "faking it" when they CLEARLY belonged together! I just wanted Levi and Hannah to break up so badly, lol!! Also, as others have pointed out, I loved how Levi played golf instead of the "usual sports," I thought that was so cuteeeee.

👍👍👍

Time for highlightssss!!

I start to laugh. I can't help it. It's so complicated and twisted. Fake this and fake that. But it's not fake that he's dating Hannah and it's not fake that he makes my heart race every time he's anywhere near me and it's not fake that...SPOILERS

Sorry, peeps, noooo spoilers. 👀

📖

"This is a fake relationship, remember? And it's barely that."

"It doesn't have to be a fake friendship though," Levi says, as we reach the classroom door.

📖

"Vice Principal Anderson?" Levi asks, with his face screwed up. He even leans away from Hannah a little at the notion. Hannah's dad is the most avoided human in this school. He is the judge, jury, and executioner. And he's been effectively ruining Hannah's life since freshman year. "I think I will stick to being the unofficial water boy for every team in school."
I just thought this was funny lolll.

📖

"But tonight, is going to be a happy night, okay? We're going to have a good night." Note: alllll the heart eyes

📖

Levi: Hey, I hope you're okay.

Note: this. boy.

📖

Levi leans away from his locker and scoops me up underneath his arm. I am enveloped by the warm, dizzying scent of his cologne. It’s comforting like it was that night in Hannah’s kitchen.

There areeeee other highlights, lol, but I can't share them because of SPOILERS!!! 🙈🙈

As far as content goes: So, there is language. Nothing really extreme, but definitely more than a few curse words. And obviously, it's a fake relationship romance, so lying IS part of the plot! I will add that just overall, there is definitely some dishonesty among different characters. Underage drinking does happen, and Madi's dad is an alcoholic...which plays a very big part in the story. A secondary gay character is essentially bullied. Teen pregnancy is mentioned. Foster care is mentioned. Grief, anxiety, and anger are some of the major feelings that are experienced and talked about.  I personally wasn't triggered by any of this, but other readers might be...so please take that into consideration.

While the book definitely had its cute and swoony moments, this was honestly more of a heavier read for me. The romance between Madi and Levi was there, but I personally wouldn't consider this a light, fluffy book. That being said, if you enjoy YA romances with more serious tones...I think you should add the book to your TBR! 💕

Joy's Summer Love Playlist by Piper Bee - Book Review

My Rating: ⭐⭐⭐

Blurb:

Summer isn’t all sunshine and rainbows, but it might be pretty close.

College-bound singer Joy has never been all that graceful, never been in love, and never really lived for herself. But when she’s suddenly free from her overbearing brother, Joy dreams of living out a summer full of music, sunshine, and an empty schedule.

There's just one catch...

Joy's hilarious duet partner, Cale, needs her to be his fake girlfriend so he can attract Lena, Joy's unattainable best friend. Cale’s plan is a tad crazy, but if Joy knows anything about Cale, it’s that he can make crazy work in his favor.

But when Lena’s long-time crush, Jin, returns home for the summer, Joy realizes Cale’s chances might be impossible. Jin is nothing short of perfect. Easygoing, charming, and insanely good-looking… Joy has to find a way to even the odds without jeopardizing the friendships she’s worked so hard for.

Things get complicated when Joy falls head over heels for the boy that was “off-limits.” Just when she thinks her first love might be the real deal, her controlling brother—and her family’s dark past—get in the way. Joy could lose a lot more than a carefree summer.

–––––––-–––––––––📖–––––––-–––––––––

“I’m stuck on you, Joy. I meant it when I said I would fight for this. If you want me to.”

HELLO. SWOONFEST.
I'm not going to share whether it was Cale or Jin who said that line, but oh my goshhhhhh did it give me the feels. 👀👀

it was extremelyyyy romantic 😍

Just like its book cover, Joy's Summer Love Playlist was cute, detailed, and vibrant. Cale was adorably goofy. Jin was amazingly sweet. And it was easy to see why Joy had mixed feelings about both of them. (I know that I had a hard time deciding who I shipped her with more, lol.)

#teamcaleeee? or #teamjinnnn? 🤔

Let's see some of those highlighted parts, shall we??

CT: Should we drive together? I can pick you up from Lena’s
CT: Actually, I don’t trust that beater. I’ll come get you

📖

Lena showed up with a flamingo pink off-shoulder sweater, leggings, and a side ponytail.

Minus the side ponytail, this would be me...no questions asked.

📖

“She’s not out here, you know. You don’t have to pretend to like me.”

“I don’t pretend to like you, Joy.”

📖

“You’re a rare kind of wonderful, too, Joy. I don’t mind fighting for that.”

📖

CT: You were beautiful and amazing

📖

There’s a flicker of insecurity in him. He looks down and continues tracing my fingers.

📖

“You thought breaking my heart would make it easier?”

swoonfesttttt.

There are honestly so many other quotes/lines I could share with y'all, but I don't want to spoil anything...and I think you see my point. 😉😍

I loved the text messages. I loved the huge role that music had. I loved all the summer activites. And, of course, I loved the romance. 💕💕

As far as content goes: So, there was quite a bit of language in the book. I expected a few curse words to be sprinkled through at different points, but I personally found it to be pretty consistent, and there were also a couple of times when the curse words were paired with God's name. Also, because of something that happened in Joy's past...there is a "sensitive content warning" at the beginning of the book. If you decide to read the book, please take the warning seriously! There was nothing triggering for me, but what happened to Joy (along with the aftermath) could be triggering to others. Joy's older brother, Carson, did have several different violent outbursts in the book (due to what happened to Joy in the past) and his attitude/actions could also be triggering to others...so, please keep that in mind as well. Underage drinking was also mentioned in the story. Besides that, there was some suggestive content and mentions/hints of different topics that some readers might be uncomfortable with.

Overall, if you're looking for a summer read filled with fun, change, and drama...then this book might just be for you! 😉💗

*And despite the book being based around a loveeeee triangle, there IS a happily ever after, so no worries there!

~I received an e-copy of this story from the author, and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.~

*Well, assuming Joy picks the guy you liked her with best. 🤔👀

What Are Friends For? by Sarah Sutton - Book Review

My Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

FALLING IN LOVE ISN'T COMPLICATED...UNLESS IT'S WITH YOUR BEST FRIEND.

A close, easygoing friendship can all change with just one kiss. Seventeen-year-old Remi Beaufort learns this the hard way when she plays a blindfolded kissing game at a party.

She thinks she's kissing Jeremy, the totally hot basketball player she's been crushing on. And the kiss...it's amazing. Heart-stopping, world-changing, toe-curling. The kiss makes her forget about her overbearing mother, the next-door neighbor's drama, and the probability that she'll fail her senior year. The best kiss of her life makes all that fall away.

Until her blindfold falls off, and she realizes that instead of kissing her crush, she's kissing Elijah, her best friend since third grade.

Though she manages to convince Elijah that he was kissing his girlfriend, Remi can't get the thought of his lips on hers out of her head. As things between them grow more and more complicated--because it turns out her fantasizing about his mouth is more of a problem than it sounds--Remi has to make a choice: does she live the rest of her life loving her best friend in secret? Or does she tell the truth and risk ruining their friendship forever?

–––––––-–––––––––📖–––––––-–––––––––

“Are you okay?” he asked in a low whisper, scanning every inch of my face as to discern the truth himself. He pressed his fingertips to my temple, a gentle kiss of skin against skin. His fingers were cold, and I shivered. “Are you hurt?”

So, this is the second book I’ve read that immediately screamed: “I COULD BE A TEEN ROMANCE MOVIE!!!” and I had a veryyyyy hard time tearing myself away from reading it. 🙈

actually me, y'all.

Best-friends-to-lovers isn’t my ultimate favorite romance trope; but when it’s done right, I actually enjoy it a lot. Which is exactly what happened with Remi and Elijah’s story.

The feels were there. The details were there. The angst was definitelyyyyy there. And even though the main focus was Remi and Elijah’s relationship, I loved that their relationships with their families were also very present. I also loved seeing the difference in how they both handled their feelings and problems.

#pleasedddddd

I could go on and ON about everything I loved, lol, but I think you get the idea. 😉💕

As far as content goes: I don’t remember there being any "actual" language (everyone does has different preferences and viewpoints on what counts as profanity though), so that was a definite plus for me! However, there was some suggestive content and mentions/hints of different topics that some readers might be uncomfortable with. Underage drinking was also part of the story.

If you want a cute (mostly clean) winter story about accidental kissing, mixed feelings, and sooooo much more…then you should absolutely give this one a read!! ❄💗

this: is just the CUTEST thing ever,
