What happens when you have to play nice with your greatest enemy? Revenge.

Drew Marshall may have let me move into his spare bedroom while my house is being renovated, but don’t think for one second his kindness comes without strings. Big, ugly, fake relationship strings.

That’s okay, though, Dr. Andrew. I’ll agree to your terms, move into your house, and act like
your girlfriend when the big day comes; but I also plan to make your life miserable—make you pay for what you did to me.

I may not be good at forgiving or forgetting, but I’m excellent at getting even.

He leans forward, his smooth jaw brushing against my face as he whispers, “You are absolutely beautiful.”

I was totally obsessed with the chemistry between Jessie and Drew! Hate-to-love mixed with forced proximity and a dash of fake dating? HOW COULD I NOT BE OBSESSED?! Oh, and their prank war? Loved. It.

it was goldennnn, lol

So funny! So cute! So relatable! Jessie's collection of tacky/adorable belongings? Drew's need to be the "go-to" person? I really enjoyed the fun/playful side of their personalities/relationship, as well as the deeper/sensitive side. And I adored Cooper in The Off Limits Rule, BUT: Drew is the man, lol. Seriously. He is PERFECT book boyfriend material. I was swooning left and right, y'all.

😍😍😍

What time is it? WHAT TIME IS IT? It's time for the highlightsss!!

“Nope. I actually already have a date to the gala.” I don’t. “My girlfriend.” Don’t have one of those either.

πŸ“–

The man is so boring he eats celery for dessert.

Note: That's just sadddd

πŸ“–

I spin. Candles. I twist. Succulents. I bend. A woven basket containing MORE fuzzy pastel blankets. How many does one woman need?! There isn’t an inch of my house that hasn’t been touched—vandalized.
I loved this part so much lollll.

πŸ“–

I watch suspiciously as his brows crunch together, and he lightly touches the pads of his fingers to his throat. He’s hiked up the sleeves of his hoodie, baring his forearms, and I don’t notice the way his veins wrap around the undersides, twisting like tempting little vines up his arms. I would have to be stupid to pay attention to those things.

πŸ“–

Drew is stiff for only a moment before his big hand rises and gently smooths down the back of my hair. He wraps his other arm around me and holds me tight, like he’s never letting go. “We’re okay?” he murmurs into my hair.
Excuse me while I go and CRY.

πŸ“–

Believe me, if there was literally anyone else in the world I could ask to pose as my fake fiancΓ©, I would. I even asked a random guy in the grocery store last night, but oddly enough, he said no. Actually, it wasn’t so much no as it was him speed walking away from me clutching his bottle of mustard.

πŸ“–

The last time I saw her, she was eating an entire bowl full of pickles. Like thirty pickles! As a medical professional who happens to specialize in maternal care, I advised her to be careful of her sodium intake. She showed me her favorite finger as a response.

Note:
Too. Cute.

πŸ“–

Her eyes sparkle as her lips pull into a sweet smile, and I’m momentarily breathless.

πŸ“–

I grab my heavy suitcase, Drew rips it out of my hand and glares at me then picks up his own. We stomp stomp stomp out of the house, lock the door, and go to the Jeep. This is how we’ve been operating the last few days, ever since our fight after the fundraiser.

πŸ“–

“Jessie. I swear…” He trails off, and I’d really like him to finish that sentence, but he doesn’t. It’s left as a warning. “Let me check your blood pressure. It’s important.”

πŸ“–

“WHOA,” Cooper yells, pressing his whole arm against the door to brace himself. “That’s it! Pull over.”

I frown and look quickly at Cooper then shift my eyes back to the road. “What? No. There was a bunny in the road—I had to swerve to miss it.”

I feel his angry eyes on the side of my face. I almost hurt his baby. He’ll never forgive me. “Pull over.”

Their bromance was LIFEEEE.

πŸ“–

Lucy and I are so over.

And Jessie's friendship with Lucy was #goals as well!

πŸ“–

"ANDREW MARSHALL!" I yell down the stairs as I descend to battle.

"Jessica, get down here!" he bellows back.

Note: Have I mentioned that I love them??

I have WAY too many highlights to share here, but CLEARLY I enjoyed the book lollll.

As far as content goes: Mild language. There was no on-page sex, but it was definitely talked about and implied along with multiple make-out scenes (at least one of those scenes did involve Drew shirtless), and innuendos. Jessie was naked during one point of the book...and even though it was not in a sexual way (she was taking a shower), the scene was from Drew's POV. However, there wasn't really any detailed description. I'm not going to list every single thing that went on in the book (although, you can message me if you'd like to know), but just like with The Off Limits Rule, I would definitely describe the book as a "PG-13 romance movie."

*My rating is usually lower when a book isn't "clean" like it was promoted (3 stars, instead of 4 or 5 stars), but I'm not doing that with this book because the author made it very clear ahead of time that this was a "steamy clean/closed-door" romance book...and I appreciate her honesty, as well as her desire to provide a spicier option for readers who want a little more than "Hallmark" but not something completely explicit.*

This book was a laugh-out-loud, must-read if you're looking for a happy, super cute closed-door/steamy clean romance!

The last line was everything, by the way. Just so y'all know. 😏

I have found rock bottom. It’s here, moving in with my older brother because I’m too broke to afford to live on my own. But that’s okay because we’ve always been close and I think I’m going to have fun living with him again.

That is until I meet Cooper…

Turns out, my brother has very strong opinions on the idea of me dating his best friend and is dead set against it. According to him, Cooper is everything I should stay away from: flirtatious, adventurous, non-committal, and freaking hot. (I added that last part because I feel like you need the whole picture.) My brother is right, though. I should stay away from Cooper James and his pretty blue eyes. He’s the opposite of what I need right now.

Nah—Who am I kidding? I’m going for him.

He lightly brushes his fingers against mine before he leans down and whispers, “I better go before Drew gets out.”

Cute, funny, relatable, and SO much more! There are certain books that I can just TOTALLY picture as a movie, and this one is 100% movie material! From realistic family relationships, to awkward flirting, to horribly accurate scenarios like sticking stray hairs to the shower wall and then not cleaning them off (I felt so called out), to just...everything. Because, yes, this book really did have a little bit of everything.

i think this is way funnier than it should be, lol

Lucy was such an adorkable character. I really wasn't expecting on relating to her, but I just saw a lot of myself in her. The awkward rambling. The overdramatic comments. The "always-seen-as-cute-and-nothing-else" feeling that annoyed her so much...I was right there with her. And Cooper...SIGHS, Cooper was so dreamy! He was a total goofball, but he could also be serious/considerate depending on the situation. He was also just plain adorable when it came to interacting with Lucy's son, Levi.

i just can't with this gif, lollll

Let's do that thing where I share my highlights from the story and possibly fangirl even more!

I want this. I want a life like this. No, not a life like it—this one, specifically.

πŸ“–

“Uh—no. Bailey…I don’t want to call Bailey.”

Swoon, SWOON, SWOONNNNNN.

πŸ“–

He throws his hands up and groans when they miss a shot, and I blink at him. “You don’t even know what the little black thing they’re fighting over on the ice is called,” I say, narrowing my eyes and daring to call his bluff.

He swings his gaze to me and smirks. “Puck off, Cooper.”
I love the friendship that Drew and Cooper had...ohmygoshhh, lol.

I stare at Drew, waiting for more, but he just seals up his lips and leans back in his chair to aim his attention at the TV again. I’m going to buy him a shirt that says World’s Biggest Hockey Fan.

πŸ“–

I watch Cooper and his blanket cape disappear down a hallway, and then I turn my eyes to the empty house.

This. Man.

πŸ“–

He grins and drops his hands away. “We don’t do anything the normal way. Tell me—would you say yes?”

πŸ“–

“Deal. I think we better seal it with a kiss.”

He shakes his head slowly at me. “Trouble.”

He’s right. For the first time in too many years, I finally feel like a little bit of trouble—in the best way possible.

πŸ“–

“I don’t know. I mean, I’m sweet and generally liked by most people, but I’ve always been overlooked. Like I make a better friend than girlfriend.

Note:
The single Pringle life

But like, seriously, I felt this when Lucy said it to Cooper.

πŸ“–

I’m a pretty straightforward guy, so instead of lying awake tonight, wondering, I ask, “Is it me? Am I making you uncomfortable? Just say the word, and I’ll totally leave you al—”
Note: My kind of guy tbh

πŸ“–

He chuckles softly and nods like I’m the cutest thing he’s ever seen—and I don’t mean cute in a sexy way.

πŸ“–

Levi runs back in the room with super-speed, looking like that little boy in The Incredibles. He’s clutching the coveted dinosaur pants. “See!” he says, holding them up super close to my face with the biggest smile I’ve ever seen.
Note: I love this kid

πŸ“–

Cooper chuckles but doesn’t remove his hands. “You blush so easily.”

“UGH. Stop. That makes it worse!” I open my eyes to find him smiling.

“But I like it when you blush.”

Gahhhhhh, okay...I'm not going to share anything else! I don't want to spoil the book, but CLEARLY you can see why I enjoyed this story so much!

As far as content goes: Mild language. There was no on-page sex, but it was definitely talked about and implied along with multiple make-out scenes (no undressing), innuendos, and a quick butt pinch. Phrases like: "big boobies", "tight buns", "booty call", "tramp", "hot and bothered", etc. were used. Cooper was shirtless several different times (I personally was fine with those moments, but I know other readers may not feel the same way). Insecurities played a really big part in the plot, especially when it came to Lucy's physical appearance (having a mom bod). Obviously, Lucy and Cooper "aren't supposed to date" so they do sneak around and there is lying involved during different points of the book (again, I personally was fine with those moments, but I know other readers may not feel the same way). Lucy's dad makes a comment about Lucy not being allowed to spend the night with a man unless he "handed her off in front of God and a preacher", and there was also a comment about Drew "putting the fear of God" into Cooper...but other than that, God/religion isn't mentioned. Levi's dad (because I refuse to call him her "ex" since he didn't even deserve that title) was a jerk...to put it mildly, and I'm only mentioning him because the relationship he had with Lucy (if you even want to call it that) could be triggering for some readers (personally, I wasn't triggered by it...just VERY annoyed). Overall, I would definitely describe the book as a "PG-13 romance movie."

*My rating is usually lower when a book isn't "clean" like it was promoted (3 stars, instead of 4 or 5 stars), but I'm not doing that with this book because the author made it very clear ahead of time that this was a "steamy clean" book...and I appreciate her honesty, as well as her desire to provide a spicier option for readers who want a little more than "Hallmark" but not something completely explicit.*

It was wonderful reading from both characters' POVs. And even though it wasn't a "hate-to-love" book, Lucy and Cooper had some GREAT banter...which I absolutely adore!! So, yeah, the story was just super witty and enjoyable. It honestly held my interest the whole time!

Alsooooo! I normally don't "pick a song" to describe any of the books I read/review, BUT the song Sucker (by the Jonas Brothers) came to my mind as I thought about Lucy and Cooper's relationship...and I think it's the PERFECT song for their story. Like, if the book ever turns into a movie (which should happen, by the way) I WANT THAT SONG TO BE IN THE MOVIE SOMEHOW.

Also, also (lol): the ending was TOO cute and it was sooooo Lucy and Cooper ALL THE WAY. No spoilers. You just need to read the book for yourself.
